Quantitative Certificate
Quantitative Certificate for Psychology PhD Students
Starting the 2023-2024 school year, CMU's Psychology Department is offering a Quantitative Certificate for PhD students. This is the first such micro-credential offered for any doctoral program at CMU and reflects the growing need for quantitative expertise in a field increasingly concerned with large and complex data structures and analysis frameworks. The program involves training above and beyond that typically obtained in the PhD program. Students will work with their advisors and committee members to create a tailored training plan appropriate for their area of research and specific interests, and will gain both professional development and science communication skills through participation in CAMeL.
To complete the Quantitative Certificate, students must:
Take 3 additional upper-level courses in statistics/quantitative methodology. These can be taken at CMU or at other institutions with approval.
Participate in CAMeL for a minimum of 3 semesters. This includes attendance at CAMeL meetings, one presentation to CAMeL, and inviting a speaker to present at CAMeL.
Complete a project (can be part of program milestones) with a substantial statistical or quantitative method component extending beyond methods taught in the required statistical coursework. This project is subject to approval by the student's faculty advisor.
In total, the certificate includes 45 units.
